Augmented Reality Experience: Self Care

Self-Care Augmented Reality Design
BRIEF
The goals of this assignment were to engage the viewer with an interesting design composition or innovative approach to utilizing augmented reality within a design context, educating the viewer by providing meaningful information, and prompting a 'Call to Action' by inspiring the viewer to take action, engage deeper into the topic, or share the information or experience with others.

CHALLENGE
With my target audience being a broad range of students, I decided to go with an idea that students from any field could apply to their own experiences. I created a guide on how students could perform self-care for themselves, especially during this time of the school year where they may be experiencing stress, lack of motivation, or just losing touch with self-care. For a more engaging AR experience, I designed the beginning of my experience to lead the viewer to a display of icons to click on that shows different forms of self-care.

ROLE
Student Designer

APPLICATION & EQUIPMENT
Adobe Aero, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Fresco

CLIENT
Class Project
STICKER DESIGN
I centered my sticker design around a phone screen. They are devices that we use every day, and it is an element that I included in my experience as one of the forms of self-care: putting your phone down. As an attention grabber, the sticker asks the viewer, "Are you lazy?" because many students who are experiencing a lack of motivation and stress may feel less productive
LOCATION
I chose a location where most of my targeted audience can be found: right outside of a classroom. My intentions with this location are so that students either entering the classroom or passing by will be able to see the sticker.
AR WALKTHROUGH
SKETCHES
For my sketches, I wanted to thoroughly plan out where I wanted different elements and what I wanted them to look like. This helped make the process of creating the AR experience much more smooth.
RESEARCH
I started by researching the topic of mental health and how it can affect people, especially those in creative fields. I took key points from the articles I read and planned my project around those. I continued researching visually for inspiration and what elements I wanted to implement into my project, and I found that I wanted to approach this project with a lot of 3-dimensional icons.
PROTOTYPING AND TESTING
REFLECTION
I thoroughly enjoyed using Adobe Aero, I thought it was enjoyable planning out the sequences of different actions and triggers. I continued exploring light and colorful color palettes with this project which was another step out of my comfort zone and I'm satisfied with how comforting and welcoming the color choices turned out to be.
